( Now Tuesday 30 May 2002) (Is did dronk verdriet)? Why am I despondent and depressed? It's the damned news! Rape, abuse, murder, hijacking, thievery, ....you name it. We do it in all in South Africa! What an amoral society we have become! And for that reason Klass Looch Associates supports the Moral Regeneration Movement! Who is to blame? To cop out let's blame apartheid. (The usual lament)! But what about the "liberation movements" encouragement to civil disobedience, which is blurred, I believe, into common criminal activity today? Yes. Liberation before education. And , boy/girl, are we paying a dear price for such folly! Hundred of thousands of under-educated persons who have witnessed so much violence in all the forms from all sides and are unemployable because they are now liberated but uneducated! And they say, go forth and promote South Africa positively! I'd love to. The Rand plunges and I, as a non-economist, am clueless as to the reason. Gordon Mulholland, one of my favourite columnists in the Sunday Times (at least I can understand and relate to him) explained it - I thought perfectly - the other day. Essentially the government is screwing up! It's as simple as that. We stall on privatisation, we embrace geriatric despots in Zimbabwe, we confuse the AIDS issue, we make love to Castro, Gaddaffi and other despots and , despite our good economic fundamentals being in place, (yawn.... whatever that means), the Rand plunges! We alienate the developed economic blocks with our nonsense but expect to be treated better because we are mos ENTITLED! And that Minister of Foreign Affairs. Does she have a personality? She screwed up royally with the Sarafina fiasco, only to be rewarded with another portfolio! Enough! The same lament applies to the Department of Labour and its force of amateurs that are causing us such headaches! I wanna deal with professionals please! Safety Accords are signed between Government, unions and Nedlac. Ag please. Will it make any difference? It's a diversion folks! The truth is that we are going downhill very fast vis-a-vis the policing of occupational health and safety in this country. And we watch idly as it happens! ...........Why? I even hear that valid criminal cases are being nolle prosequi-ed (cancelled) because the OHS specialised courts are fed up. They cannot wait any longer for the Department of Labour (Enforcement and Inspection Service) to get their OHS Act together. Maybe the new acting Chief Inspector will be our salvation............. I doubt it. He is up against too much I'm afraid. But what the heck. Sweat shops will flourish. Workers will be abused. COSATU will toyi-toyi whenever the cameras are on them. (I have a friend in Sydney who fears for my safety when she reads my newsletters). I told her. We live in a Constitutional State, (I have the democratic Right To Bitch)! Or as my 91 year old mother always says. At least you have your health! (I often fall back on that one)! Well, folks, I have decided to publish my lament. Especially since I took my Website off-line to update it in order for it to contain more information, that hopefully you, (subscribers), would appreciate! I recall that I was once in the former Communist East Germany on 1 May 1975! I sat during the monotonous military parade, only to be kakked out by some goose-stepping fascist, only because I should have been standing! How the world has changed. Not that COSATU seems to have noticed. I hate the word "comrade" - having seen what the real meaning of the word in the tyrannies behind the former Iron Curtain!
